Because of ongoing and expanding threats related to COVID-19 (coronavirus), Virginia Commonwealth University, John Tyler Community College, and Reynolds Community College have implemented social distancing practices to help protect the health, well-being, and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and those in the communities we serve.
Therefore, out of an abundance of caution on-campus visits to John Tyler and Reynolds Community Colleges are suspended until further notice. However, STEM Transitions wants to make sure you are fully supported as you make your transition from community college to VCU. Elizabeth Heck, VCU STEM Transfer Coordinator, will still be meeting with students in an online format using Zoom or Google Hangouts to discuss your options and create a plan for a successful transition to VCU. Please email Ms. Heck at email@example.com to schedule a virtual appointment.
As part of the VCU Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Inclusive Excellence Award and in partnership with the VCU Transfer Center, STEM Transitions is a new program that offers resources and support for students at John Tyler Community College and Reynolds Reynolds Community who plan to transfer to VCU to complete their bachelor’s degree in a math or science discipline.
Transfer maps are major maps for Virginia community college students who plan on transferring to VCU. We have partnered with community colleges to provide similar academic and career-planning guidance to prospective transfer students as we provide to incoming first year students at VCU. This guidance includes a four-year degree plan that outlines courses and requirements to be taken at the community college in the first two years as well as courses that remain to be taken at VCU for the final two years. By following the recommendations of the transfer maps, community college students will: prepare for the academic challenges at VCU; graduate on time, with minimal debt and loss of transfer credit; and plan for a future after graduation.
